All colors influence your mood and psyche in one way or another. Understanding this subtle knowledge can be useful for us to be more selective about the colors we wear and surround ourselves with.

Of all the colors, white is the one that brightens the most. White is a spiritual color. It is the color of angels, the color of purity and the color of cleanliness. And cleanliness is said to invoke devotion. White light is composed of all the colors of the spectrum and therefore contains all colors. So if you seek harmony in your life, if you seek to balance your personality to make it whole and complete again, then it would be wise to add a little more white to your environment and wardrobe. Lighten your life and you will lighten your character.

Logic says that if you cannot influence your state of mind from the inside out, then you can try to do so from the outside in! White contains the vibrations of peace and love, calm and caring. White is the color of innocence and peace, symbolized by the white dove. Dressing in white can help bring out all qualities from within the soul.

Any speck on a white background will immediately jump out at you. That is why all those who seek the qualities of purity wear white to remind themselves that their souls remain equally clean and without the imprints of evil deeds. The robes of the Pope, Mother Teresa, Dadi Janki and many other spiritual leaders are white for the same reason.

It is no accident that doctors’ scrubs are white and not pink or black. Apart from the obvious reasons of hygiene, doctors are sometimes seen as divine beings who cure diseases and bring the dying back to life. Indian politicians who claim to have a clear (not corrupt) character use this color on purpose and wear typical white clothes to elevate their image.

White is the favorite color of many pilgrims around the world. To denote simplicity, humility and purity, the clothes are made of plain, unrefined fabric and in some cases are not sewn. It is a way to remember that when we go before Almighty God, we must go without the covering of our ego and ‘arrogance. We need to shed the hard skin of body consciousness.

The wedding dress can only be white to indicate to those present that the bride is pure and chaste as fresh snow!

White is also often the first and last color with which the body is adorned, from birth to the grave. In many cultures, white is the last garment the body will wear before being taken to burial or cremation. A spiritual lesson that in the end we take nothing with us. Regardless of our social standing or what we own, we all leave empty-handed and without shiny things or gold.

Perhaps most important of all, the white reflects. It repels negative energy. White is the color of the giver, the one who blesses and spreads light. In contrast, the energy of black is that lack, it takes from what is around and absorbs light. It is gloomy, solemn and dark.

When we examine our true spiritual nature, we come to understand that we are already light. Perhaps it may be hidden by the dark costume of body consciousness, but in reality it can never fail. It remains our imperishable truth. The journey to discover our true self then becomes our path to enlightenment.

And the role of the enlightened one is to empower oneself with God’s light and reflect it on others.

It’s time… to add more white to your life, to brighten it and make your character more pleasant and then… everything will automatically be fine!
