Lighting in the home: paper lamps and light design

Light is one of the most important elements of a home, so much so that it is a real furnishing element that should not be overlooked. That’s why I decided to devote an entire article tolighting in the home, suggesting a few tricks for choosing the best lights and a few designer lamps or paper lamps to consider to give your home a unique touch.

Lighting in the home: natural light, warm light and cold light

When it comes to home lighting, natural light always has a place of honor. A bright house is a living house, allowing us to take a good look at the space around us and appreciate the nature around us. If you have the chance, I recommend preferring large windows in convivial areas, such as the kitchen and living room, leaving the shadow play to the sleeping area.

It is here, in the sleeping area, that you should indulge in warm colors and romantic lamps. Warm tones are known to help relax the eyes and unwind, soon giving a pleasant feeling of well-being and relaxation. Therefore, cold lights in the bedroom are banned. Imagine coming home after a hard day’s work at the office, where you kept your eyes wide open for about eight hours, and finding the same condition in the place where you should be relaxing!

However, cool lights have their own important function. If you have a home office, I suggest you install chandeliers, desk lamps or LED panels with cool light here. The same applies to the kitchen, which will need to be well lit on the countertop.

For the bathroom, well, the subject changes. It is a functional room but also very often the place where you relax the most! If you have a bathroom with a tub, I recommend placing wall sconces or a floor lamp with warm lights in this area. On the contrary, on the sink and at the mirror, used for makeup and shaving, it will be essential to have a good view with cool lights; two separate switches and that’s it: relaxation and practicality in the same room!

Types of lamps and materials: paper lamps and how to use them

There are indeed many lamps, and each of them has a different function and purpose. Let’s find out together:

Chandeliers and pendant lamps

Often misused and placed alone in the center of a very large room, chandeliers are meant to illuminate a specific point in the room. Wonderful are chandeliers placed on the dinner table, with a direct, perhaps warm, light on the most convivial place in the house.

The Ibiza chandelier made of natural fibers is perfect for giving a boho chic look to your beach or country home.

How about a spectacular designer hanging lamp, made entirely by hand?

Designer ceiling and wall lights

Often when we hear the word “ceiling light fixture,” all that comes to mind are those ugly, opaque glass bowls that are difficult to clean and not very functional. It is essential to remember that ceiling lights should be used in rooms with low ceilings and small spaces. They are usually associated with warm lights and should not be the main source of lighting in functional rooms; however, they are perfect for hallways and living rooms. But forget the bowls! Charlot & Cie’s natural paper wall and ceiling lights are true design elements intended to enrich the look of your home:

Floor and table lamps

No less scenic are the floor lamps and table lamps.

Usually placed in the less well-lit corners of the home, in living rooms or bare hallways, these lamps, combined with warm light, become true decorating elements. When it comes to floor lamps, I like to indulge in designer silk paper lamps and often dabble in making some personal creations

Among my favorites, here are the ones made to order by Charlot & Cie:

Paper lamps: eco-friendly solutions for designer furniture

If you’ve been following me for a while you’ll have figured it out: textiles and eco-friendly elements are my passion. That’s why I decided to host, in my Locarno workshop and on my online shop, Charlot & Cie’s silk paper lamps.

Oriental in style, paper lamps have been a design must-have since 1951, with the achievements of Isamu Noguchi, from which so many international brands now take their cues.

However, we try to move away from 1970s “super ball” and oriental design and project our homes toward modern and unique decor.
